Immunotherapy is a highly effective maintenance and treatment regimen for chronic asthma and allergy sufferers, including those with allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and childhood nasal allergies. Immunotherapy may be administered subcutaneously (allergy shots) in the office or sublingually (allergy drops) at home. Immunotherapy in the form of allergy drops or allergy shots are the only ways to permanently eliminate or “cure” a person’s allergies.
Allergy Drops
Allergy drops use the very same custom antigen formulas used in allergy shots. Allergy drops are the perfect solution for children and busy adults who need ongoing immunotherapy to manage their allergen triggers and, ultimately, reduce symptoms.
Each day, the patient simply places the allergy drops under their tongue for pain-free, office-free allergy treatment. Just like with allergy shots, over time the dosage is increased to build the patient’s tolerance to allergens. Allergy drop treatment usually lasts three to five years and most patients achieve nearly complete desensitization to their allergens.

For some patients, weekly allergy shots may be preferred or recommended over allergy drops. Dr. Rotskoff has extensive experience treating patients with weekly allergy injections to gradually build tolerance to environmental allergens in the same way that allergy drops work.
In-office allergy shot scheduling is efficient and designed to accommodate patients’ busy schedules. Allergy shots are very effective in reducing the long-term effects of seasonal allergies, hay fever, childhood allergies, asthma, and insect allergies. Some insurance plans are more likely to provide coverage for allergy shots than allergy drops. Dr. Rotskoff will gladly help you research and coordinate this with your provider.
